A story Share by Pastor Stephen DeMik of Holy Trinity in Covington LA.  Sharing the love of Jesus Through Service and Partnerships

On November 9th, the Youth Group of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Covington wasn’t sure what to expect.  They had come the night before to set up the kitchen, tables, and chairs, and also decorate the fellowship hall with patriotic signs, flags, and even a wall that declared, “We Support Our Troops.”  Most congregations may share in a time of patriotic singing or participate in a prayer service for the troops serving in our U.S. Armed Services.

The Youth at HTLC&S made pancakes.  Youth and their parents mixed the batter, watched them turn a golden brown, and delivered them to tables filled with members of Holy Trinity…along with a side of bacon, sausage, a cup of fruit and some juice.

After serving this open-style breakfast from 9-11am Sunday morning, the group was ecstatic to find out that in that short amount of time they had received donations in excess of $1,000.  Their goal of $325 for the breakfast had been tripled.

All of the proceeds from this event were sent to ‘Military Ministry’, an organization which puts together RDKs (Rapid Deployment Kits), which consist of a New Testament with Psalms and Proverbs, a military devotional, and information on Christianity—all in a water-proof pouch (http://give2.ccci.org/featured/rdk-wm/index.php).

The entire Holy Trinity family was thrilled with the success of this event, and looks forward to supporting additional Christian organizations in the future.

A Story from a member of Church of the Pines in Waveland, MS shared by Pastor Gary Faith.

We start every Bible Class with the question,"Has anybody had a critical event this week?"  She came into my office and said, "I am not sure if I had a critical event or not."  I asked her to tell me about it.

She described the person as one who hadn't been to church in a long time.  She described a loving , relationship building conversation.  I asked her if during that conversation she told them that Jesus died for them.  She said, "well, yes."

I smiled and said yes you had  a critical event.  This child of God who is in her late 60's, said with tears in her eyes, "That was the first time I ever did that."  The Holy Spirit is using the Ablaze movement to help us all see that we are missionaries on the mission field.

“. . . for his steadfast love endures for ever!” (Psalm 106:1b)

In the month of October we celebrate the Reformation. Many have often wondered what enabled Dr. Martin Luther to be the driving force he came to be, during the Reformation. The answer can be found in our verse this month.  Read more here.

Ablaze! is a mission movement within the LCMS to encourage members to be active in their witness to the unchurched and dechurched by offering a clear Gospel message of the hope we have through faith in Jesus.  Ablaze! is also about revitalization (transformation) of existing congregations and the planting of new ministries.  Learn more about Ablaze! along with some starter ideas

Fan into Flame is a capital campaign to help fund the Ablaze! initiatives locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.  The Southern District is pleased to be a partner in this effort.  Join in prayer and support of this iniatiative
